The National Book Council reached out with a clear vision: to reimagine the 2025 Malta Book Festival as more than an event. A living celebration of stories and creativity. This year’s edition opens a fresh chapter, a transformation that reflects how books are viewed and received in today’s reading world.

A bolder vision

Drawing inspiration from the colourful spines of books stacked on tall shelves, the visual identity features a bold palette of primary colours. The custom lettering is designed with sharper, elongated angles rather than rounded edges, reflecting books standing side by side and the geometry of open pages. Yet making sure that the logo remains flexible and dynamic to adapt it seamlessly across all festival touchpoints as needed, digital and print.

Deliverables

My involvement in this year’s Malta Book Festival focused on the full brand creation and creative direction to shape a unified identity. From the logo and poster design to on-site signage and printed foldable program. The MBF visual identity came to life across both digital and print materials extending to social media campaigns and artworks, tote bags, bookmarks, press materials, and print advertising. It also included dedicated resource packs for children and large-scale applications like the MCP car park installation.

Collabs

This project came to life thanks to an incredible team of creatives whose talent and collaboration made all the difference. Special thanks to the Marketing Team at the National Book Council, namely Mark, Teodor, Jamine, Matthew, and Andrew, for their energy and support. To designer Megan Borg for her work with the studio, and Sarah Cachia Falzon for her contribution to the FITB artworks. To Zaffareze (especially Carlo De Lorenzo) for their creative installation input. To the MFCC for their smooth collaboration. Big shoutout to Rupture MT, especially Nico Grima, for their involvement in the event’s motion pictures. And finally, to Jacob, Elisa, and the other photographers for capturing the festival’s animated atmosphere so perfectly.
